Chaga Mushroom Tea
Chaga (Inonotus obliquus) is a wild medicinal mushroom that grows mainly on birch trees. It
has been traditionally used for centuries in Northern Europe, Russia, and parts of Canada as a daily warming drink, especially during long winters.
Chaga is harvested from cold northern forests, where it grows slowly on birch bark and absorbs minerals from the tree.
Chaga tea has a deep, earthy, slightly woody
flavor with natural vanilla notes. It is naturally caffeine-free and very gentle. Chaga is valued for its antioxidant content and is often chosen as a grounding, nourishing drink during cold or stressful seasons. Best time to drink -any time of day. Especially good in the evening or as a caffeine-free alternative to coffee.
How to brew chaga
Water temperature: 90–95°C (194–203°F)
Steeping time: 10–15 minutes
Tip: Chaga can be re-brewed several times until the color fades. For a stronger decoction, simmer gently on low heat for 30–60 minutes. Drink plain to enjoy its natural earthy taste
Add a slice of orange peel or cinnamon stick for warmth Add a little maple syrup or honey for a softer flavor
Chaga pairs beautifully with winter routines, slow mornings, and quiet evenings. It is not just a tea, but a mindful ritual rooted in northern forest traditions.
At Hearterra, we are especially proud to offer locally collected chaga from the Soo (Sault Ste. Marie area). Harvested responsibly from northern birch forests, this chaga reflects the strength and purity of our local landscape.
Choosing locally sourced chaga means supporting sustainable foraging practices and enjoying a product that is deeply connected to our region. It is a true northern winter staple, warming, grounding, and rooted in local tradition.
