Washing soda, also called sodium carbonate, or soda ash, has a strong degreasing and water softening power. It can be used throughout the house for laundry, dishes, cleaning and DIY. Its most common use is as a laundry detergent optimizer for hard water. Washing soda is also very useful for the maintenance of cloth diapers and greasy-stained clothes.

  • Fortifies laundry and softens hard water
  • Very useful for the maintenance of washable diapers
  • Soda crystals are non-toxic for the environment and for humans

Directions

To increase the efficiency of laundry detergent and soften water:
For colourfast fabrics - 1 to 2 tbsp soda ash
For white fabrics - 1/2 cup of soda ash
Add to the detergent drawer. This reduces limescale stains on fabrics and in the washer, which prevents fabric from greying due to limescale stains.

To remove stains from heavily soiled laundry:
1 to 2 tbsps soda ash
a basin of water
Before washing, soak the laundry. Use warm or hot water for white and light colours, and cool or warm for darker colours. Soak for 30 minutes or longer for very soiled laundry (fabric must be colourfast).

To clean cloth diapers:
Soak previously washed diapers for 48 hours in a mixture of 20 L of hot water, 250 mL of soda ash and a few drops of dish soap. This will remove soap scum and limescale.

CAUTION IRRITANT. CAUTION: Avoid contact with eyes. Protect from freezing. FIRST AID: Contact – flush eyes for several minutes. Ingestion - Drink plenty of water and do not induce vomiting. Consult a doctor, if necessary.
